Wednesday @ 7:29am–Full choir–everyone!

Please be on time!  We will be rehearsing with our pianist, Mrs. Kay Odom for our upcoming competitions.

All members of the performance choir (this is everyone with a uniform) must attend ALL practices in order to participate in the competitions (including Six Flags), elementary school concerts, and Spring Concert.  If your students rides a bus and you have not sent a bus note for the Spring Semester, please do so immediately so that your child’s attendance can be marked accordingly.  ALL excuse notes must be signed by a parent/guardian!  No exceptions!

Elementary School Performances

Posted in Uncategorized on December 10, 2007 by jward1

The choir will be performing on Tuesday, December 18th at Southwind Elementary School and Germantown Elementary.  Only the students on the list will be performing.  The students were selected based on conduct, grades, and attendance at the morning rehearsals.  Due to bus availability we were only able to select 50 students.  The Southwind ES performance will begin around 9:30 and the Germantown ES performance will being around 1 or 1:30.  Both of these times depend on bus schedules and lunch times.   The uniform will be red choir shirts and black pants.  Shirts are tucked in.  I have no preference on shoes.  Hair should be pulled back and no large jewelry should be worn! Email me if you have any questions!

Choir Announcements 10-5-07

Just a few reminders for the long weekend:

Choir rehearsal every Wednesday Morning at 7:29am. Attendance is taken. Please send notes with your students if they are unable to attend. Any student missing more than 3 morning rehearsals could be removed from the concert choir.

All West Honor Choir–Students have received music and practice CDs for the audition. The audition is very competitive. Please check with your students to ensure they truly are committed to this audition. It takes some practice every day. I have posted a calendar outside of my classroom door for students to sign up with individual/small group practice time with me. ALL STUDENTS AUDITIONING FOR THE HONOR CHOIR MUST MEET WITH ME AT LEAST TWICE OUTSIDE OF CLASS. The audition is Oct. 27th and we will need parent help at the audition site. Please check your calendars.

Here’s who is registered to audition (this list cannot be changed):

Addition to the calendar–We have added a concert to the calendar. It will be Oct. 23 (Monday Night) for the PTA meeting. Please plan on attending. It will be a great first concert for us! Students will wear choir t-shirts and jeans (or black or blue pants if they have no jeans).

Choir Uniforms: They have been ordered. Any other individual wishing to order a uniform must deal directly with the company. Please email me for their contact information. Students without a choir uniform cannot perform with the concert choir.

WATER–As Fall begins, our students begin having problems singing. This is due to the weather change, outside environment, the classroom temperature, etc. A parent has donated a refrigerator for the choir room. Please bring a case of bottled water for students to drink during choir. It definitely helps their singing voice.

Have a wonderful FALL BREAK!!!

Choir Announcements, September 28, 2007

SunTrust Info—If you have not received all of your SunTrust account information from Mr. Bonds, please send me an email. The turn-around time for you receiving the account packet with started checks is only a couple of days. So if you turned in a form weeks ago and haven’t heard anything, SOMETHING’S WRONG.

After you receive and activate your check card, you’ll need to use it! That shouldn’t be a problem for most of us. After you use it, you’ll need to go to the following website to designate which non-profit organization you’d like to receive the $100 donation. Obviously you’ll want to choose Germantown Middle School.

Go here to donate the money:
http://www.guidestar.org/pqShowGsReport.do?partner=suntrust&npoId=100785247

The following website can be used to check to see if you’re donation has actually gone through. If there is a problem, you can email Mr. Bonds or myself.

Go here to check the donation:
https://promotion.suntrust.com/mycause/

After that, you do not need to do anything else. You should be receiving an acknowledgement letter from SunTrust within the next few weeks. SunTrust will then write us a check in December once the fundraiser is over.

All West Practice Schedule—We’ve added a few dates to our practice schedule. They are not mandatory, but if your child is auditioning for All-West Honor Choir please encourage them to join us. The schedule is as follows:

Mondays at 7:15 am SOPRANOS only

Tuesdays at 7:15 am ALTOS only

Thursdays at 7:15 am BOYS only

Again, the above times are just for those students auditioning for the honor choir. Here is a list of students who are registered for the Honor Choir Auditions. Remember, that this audition is very competitive. I have seen a lot of students and they are making some great progress. JUST KEEP ENCOURAGING THEM. Maybe you could ask them to sing one of the songs for you. You might be impressed with how well they are speaking in Latin!!

Students are still available to sign up for individual practice times as they prepare for the audition. Please make sure that if you student stays after school to practice that they have a ride no later than 4:30. On Tuesdays and Thursdays students will need to be picked up by 3:45 so that I may go assist Mr. Lane with Marching Band practice.

Morning Choir Practice—We are still rehearsing every Wednesday morning at 7:29am. WOW! The full choir sounds so great. I really hope you’re making plans to attend the Oct. 23rd concert just to hear how wonderful they sound! DON”T FORGET! 7:29AM EVERY WEDNESDAY!!!

Water Donations—We’ve gotten lots of water from parents, but we can always use more. Feel free to send your child with a bottle of water or even a whole case of water. I know the students have really appreciated it this week because we’ve been doing a lot of singing!

Oct. 23rd concert—GMS PTA Meeting. Students need to be there no later than 5:45PM. They may stay at the school until the concert is over if they’d like. Mr. Lane and myself will both be at school ALL DAY! We will be wearing our choir t-shirts. They will be distributed with in the next week or so. I’ll let you know about the pants. It will be within our GMS dress code policy.

Uniforms—Money is due no later than Monday! If you need concessions to be made, please call or email. If students do not have the choir uniform, they will not be performing at our Holiday Concert. Remember that the girl’s fee is $135 and the boy’s fee is $100. Checks can be made to GMS Choir.

PowerGrade is working. I’ll be putting grades in over the weekend. Please contact me if you see any problems with your child’s grade. It may take a few days to show up online because I have hundreds of grades to input. Just be patient a little bit longer! ☺

Have a great weekend!
